George Sanger Diskettes
I was a member of a team that digitally preserved a group of 3.5 inch floppy diskettes belonging to George Sanger, a creator of music for video games, for the Digital Archiving and Preservation class at the School of Information.
The project began with an inventory of approximately 290 3.5 inch floppy diskettes, including images of both the front and back of each diskette. Metadata from the diskettes was included in the inventory.
The team used Kryoflux, a forensic floppy controller card, to pull the raw data from the diskettes which was then used to create a comprehensive disk image, revealing the diskette content and file hierarchy as it was originally written to the disk. The inventory, raw data from the disks and all associated metadata was then uploaded to the Texas Advanced Computing Center at University of Texas.
